The Broxwood Floating Corten Steel Cube Planters
Description
Our beautifully simple Corten steel cube planters, handmade to order in Britain with discreet feet creating a subtle floating appearance.
Part of our Broxwood Collection, bringing together exceptional garden products made by skilled workshops closer to home, these contemporary cube planters are made to order by professional fabricators near Birmingham.
Available in seven sizes from a compact 30cm cube right through to a substantial 100cm cube, the Broxwood Floating Cube is one of the most versatile planters in the collection. Its beautifully simple proportions work equally well in contemporary gardens, traditional settings, courtyards and larger commercial landscapes.
What sets this design apart is the discreet 15mm integrated feet beneath the planter. These lift the body very slightly above the ground, creating a subtle shadow line and the impression that the planter is almost floating. As well as looking good, the raised base improves airflow and drainage beneath the planter.
The smaller sizes are ideal for grasses, hydrangeas, lavender and seasonal planting, while the larger cubes have enough presence for clipped evergreens, Japanese maples, olive trees and substantial specimen shrubs. Use one as a focal point, position a matching pair beside an entrance, or repeat several sizes through a larger planting scheme.
Each planter is made from heavy-duty certified Corten steel, using 2mm structural-grade steel as standard. It arrives in its raw steel state before gradually developing the familiar orange, russet and deep brown tones of naturally weathered Corten. The resulting patina doesn't simply give the planter its character – it forms the protective surface that makes weathering steel so well suited to life outdoors.
Every planter arrives fully assembled and ready to position, complete with pre-drilled drainage holes. Each is made specifically for your order, with delivery typically taking approximately 2–4 weeks. Bespoke dimensions and heavier steel gauges up to 6mm can also be quoted for more demanding planting schemes and commercial projects.
Simple, architectural and incredibly versatile – the Broxwood Floating Cube is a beautifully understated planter that lets both the planting and the character of naturally weathered steel take centre stage.

How Long To Go Rusty?
My Corten products are dispatched in a raw steel finish as standard.
It will take up to 12 months for the steel to develop its final rusted look & protective layer, but it could be as soon as 6 months if your garden's conditions are just right!
This process depends on factors such as weather, climate, your proximity to the coast (sea spray) etc...
Bespoke Sizes
If our standard sizes aren't quite right for your space, don't worry. We're delighted to offer a bespoke service, allowing our workshop to manufacture many of our products to your exact requirements.
Simply get in touch using the enquiry form on this page and let us know what you have in mind. The more information you can provide, the better we'll be able to advise and prepare a quotation tailored to your project.
Thickness
As standard, planters supplied in the Corten Range are made from a 2mm thick, structural-grade steel. Water features are generally upgraded to a thicker 3mm.
However, depending on your intended use - if you would like to order an item made from a thicker, more substantial steel (up to 6mm thick), then please get in touch and I can source a quotation.
I would suggest upgrading the thickness if you are:-
- Planting anything heavy
- Located in a windy spot
- Are near the coast
- Planning on using these in a commercial setting
A heavier grade planter will always last longer.
Maintenance & Notes
Maintenance
Corten steel requires no maintenance as the rusted patina it naturally forms acts as a protective barrier meaning there’s no need for painting or sealing. Depending on the environmental exposure, Corten steel’s lifespan can exceed 50 years thanks to its self-protecting rust layer, which is why it’s ideal for outdoor applications.
Notes
During the natural weathering process, your piece may produce ‘runoff’ that could cause staining on the surface below. This risk is particularly high during the first three to six months of the weathering process. Keep an eye out if these needs washing off a new patio.
Please note that, once production has started, the workshop may not be able to accommodate changes to an order.
Once you have received your planter or water feature, please unpack it straight away. Planters left palletised or packaged may develop an uneven patina if exposed to moisture or rain.
Warranty
5 year manufacturer's structural warranty.
What is Corten Steel?
Corten steel is highly durable and resistant to corrosion. It develops a unique rusty patina that enhances its look over time and this layer protects it further from changing weather conditions, making it ideal for outdoor use.
