Description

Our range of tall, architectural Corten steel planters, handmade to order in Britain to bring height and structure to gardens, entrances and terraces.

Part of our Broxwood Collection, bringing together exceptional garden products made by skilled workshops closer to home, these contemporary pillar planters are made to order by professional fabricators.

Available in 10 standard sizes, the Broxwood Pillar combines a simple square footprint with taller proportions, making it ideal where you want to introduce height without taking up unnecessary floor space. Choose from heights of 60cm, 80cm, 100cm and 120cm, with widths from 30–50cm.

The clean geometric design works particularly well in pairs either side of a doorway or entrance, positioned along a terrace, or repeated through a larger landscaping scheme. Plant with ornamental grasses, clipped evergreens, bay, architectural foliage or seasonal displays for a simple but striking combination.

Each planter is made to order from heavy-duty certified Corten steel, with 2mm structural-grade steel used as standard. Supplied initially in its raw steel state, exposure to the elements gradually develops the rich orange, russet and deep brown patina characteristic of Corten. This naturally weathered surface protects the steel beneath while creating a finish that becomes increasingly characterful with age.

Every planter arrives fully assembled and ready to position, with discreet 15mm integrated feet to improve airflow and drainage, together with pre-drilled drainage holes to help provide healthy growing conditions.

Every Broxwood Pillar is made specifically for your order, with a typical delivered lead time of approximately 2–4 weeks. Bespoke dimensions and heavier steel gauges up to 6mm can also be quoted, making the range particularly useful for garden designers, landscapers and commercial projects.

Tall, beautifully simple and exceptionally versatile – the Broxwood Pillar brings architectural height to a planting scheme while allowing the warmth and character of weathering steel to do the talking.

How Long To Go Rusty?

My Corten products are dispatched in a raw steel finish as standard.

It will take up to 12 months for the steel to develop its final rusted look & protective layer, but it could be as soon as 6 months if your garden's conditions are just right!

This process depends on factors such as weather, climate, your proximity to the coast (sea spray) etc...

Bespoke Sizes

If our standard sizes aren't quite right for your space, don't worry. We're delighted to offer a bespoke service, allowing our workshop to manufacture many of our products to your exact requirements.

Simply get in touch using the enquiry form on this page and let us know what you have in mind. The more information you can provide, the better we'll be able to advise and prepare a quotation tailored to your project.

Thickness

As standard, planters supplied in the Corten Range are made from a 2mm thick, structural-grade steel. Water features are generally upgraded to a thicker 3mm.

However, depending on your intended use - if you would like to order an item made from a thicker, more substantial steel (up to 6mm thick), then please get in touch and I can source a quotation.

I would suggest upgrading the thickness if you are:-

  • Planting anything heavy
  • Located in a windy spot
  • Are near the coast
  • Planning on using these in a commercial setting

A heavier grade planter will always last longer.

Maintenance & Notes

Maintenance

Corten steel requires no maintenance as the rusted patina it naturally forms acts as a protective barrier meaning there’s no need for painting or sealing. Depending on the environmental exposure, Corten steel’s lifespan can exceed 50 years thanks to its self-protecting rust layer, which is why it’s ideal for outdoor applications.

Notes

During the natural weathering process, your piece may produce ‘runoff’ that could cause staining on the surface below. This risk is particularly high during the first three to six months of the weathering process. Keep an eye out if these needs washing off a new patio.

Please note that, once production has started, the workshop may not be able to accommodate changes to an order.

Once you have received your planter or water feature, please unpack it straight away. Planters left palletised or packaged may develop an uneven patina if exposed to moisture or rain.

Warranty

5 year manufacturer's structural warranty.

What is Corten Steel?

Corten steel is highly durable and resistant to corrosion. It develops a unique rusty patina that enhances its look over time and this layer protects it further from changing weather conditions, making it ideal for outdoor use.
