The Bosbury - Handmade Galvanised Steel Square Planter

A substantial statement planter inspired by traditional British design and handmade here in Herefordshire.

At a generous 60 × 60cm, The Bosbury is a wonderfully substantial square garden planter, designed to give established planting, specimen shrubs and small trees the presence they deserve. Its distinctive raised period detailing gives the planter an architectural quality, with beautifully proportioned panelled sides and a circular central motif creating the appearance of a piece that might have been in the garden for generations.

Each planter is individually handmade from steel here in Herefordshire before being hot-dip galvanised for excellent long-term protection against the elements. The newly galvanised surface is then treated with an aged patina, softening its initial brightness and creating the wonderfully characterful, time-worn finish that works so well amongst traditional stone, gravel, brick and established planting. The maker uses this same galvanised-and-aged finishing process across its Herefordshire-made ironwork.

The generous proportions make The Bosbury particularly well suited to Japanese maples, clipped yew, hydrangeas, bay and other specimen shrubs or small trees. Use one as a focal point on a terrace or courtyard, or position a matching pair either side of an entrance for a more formal arrangement.

Why 'The Bosbury'?

We've named this planter after the Herefordshire village of Bosbury, home for many years to celebrated Victorian country chairmaker Philip Clissett. Working from his village workshop using traditional techniques, Clissett's chairs went on to become influential within the English Arts & Crafts movement; around fifty of his chairs still furnish the Great Hall of London's Art Workers' Guild.

It seemed a fitting name for another handcrafted item made by hand here in Herefordshire more than a century later.
