Description

Our substantial raised Corten steel cube planters, handmade to order with simple proportions and a wonderfully practical raised base.

Part of our Broxwood Collection, bringing together exceptional garden products made by skilled workshops closer to home, our bold cube planters are handmade to order by professional fabricators.

Available in five standard sizes from 40cm to an impressive 100cm cube, the Broxwood combines clean architectural lines with the warmth and character of naturally weathering steel. Use a pair to frame an entrance, position one as a focal point on a terrace, or repeat several throughout a larger garden or commercial landscape to create structure and rhythm.

Each planter is crafted from heavy-duty certified Corten steel, using 2mm structural-grade steel as standard. Supplied initially in its raw state, exposure to the elements gradually develops the characteristic orange, russet and deep brown patina. This naturally weathered surface protects the steel beneath, creating a planter that becomes increasingly characterful with age while requiring virtually no routine maintenance.

The simple cube shape makes these particularly versatile for planting. Smaller sizes are perfect for ornamental grasses, hydrangeas and seasonal displays, while the larger 80cm and 100cm models provide the scale needed for olive trees, Japanese maples, clipped evergreens and substantial specimen shrubs.

Every planter arrives fully assembled, complete with pre-drilled drainage holes and substantial 90mm integrated feet. As well as improving airflow and drainage beneath the planter, the raised base means suitable larger models can be accessed by a pallet truck or forklift – particularly useful for commercial settings or gardens where planters may occasionally need repositioning.

Every Broxwood Cube is made specifically for your order, with a typical delivered lead time of around 2–4 weeks. Bespoke dimensions and heavier steel gauges up to 6mm are also available for larger planting schemes and commercial projects.

Substantial, beautifully simple and built for the long term – the Broxwood Cube combines British-made metalwork with one of the most versatile planter shapes you can put in a garden.

How Long To Go Rusty?

My Corten products are dispatched in a raw steel finish as standard.

It will take up to 12 months for the steel to develop its final rusted look & protective layer, but it could be as soon as 6 months if your garden's conditions are just right!

This process depends on factors such as weather, climate, your proximity to the coast (sea spray) etc...

Bespoke Sizes

If our standard sizes aren't quite right for your space, don't worry. We're delighted to offer a bespoke service, allowing our workshop to manufacture many of our products to your exact requirements.

Simply get in touch using the enquiry form on this page and let us know what you have in mind. The more information you can provide, the better we'll be able to advise and prepare a quotation tailored to your project.

Thickness

As standard, planters supplied in the Corten Range are made from a 2mm thick, structural-grade steel. Water features are generally upgraded to a thicker 3mm.

However, depending on your intended use - if you would like to order an item made from a thicker, more substantial steel (up to 6mm thick), then please get in touch and I can source a quotation.

I would suggest upgrading the thickness if you are:-

  • Planting anything heavy
  • Located in a windy spot
  • Are near the coast
  • Planning on using these in a commercial setting

A heavier grade planter will always last longer.

Maintenance & Notes

Maintenance

Corten steel requires no maintenance as the rusted patina it naturally forms acts as a protective barrier meaning there’s no need for painting or sealing. Depending on the environmental exposure, Corten steel’s lifespan can exceed 50 years thanks to its self-protecting rust layer, which is why it’s ideal for outdoor applications.

Notes

During the natural weathering process, your piece may produce ‘runoff’ that could cause staining on the surface below. This risk is particularly high during the first three to six months of the weathering process. Keep an eye out if these needs washing off a new patio.

Please note that, once production has started, the workshop may not be able to accommodate changes to an order.

Once you have received your planter or water feature, please unpack it straight away. Planters left palletised or packaged may develop an uneven patina if exposed to moisture or rain.

Warranty

5 year manufacturer's structural warranty.

What is Corten Steel?

Corten steel is highly durable and resistant to corrosion. It develops a unique rusty patina that enhances its look over time and this layer protects it further from changing weather conditions, making it ideal for outdoor use.
