Now December has passed and we've stepped into a new year, the excitement and anticipation is kicking in for the upcoming Spring season and everything we want to achieve in our gardens this year.

Creating your dream garden begins with a vision—an idea of the atmosphere, colours, and purpose you want to cultivate. Whether you want a tranquil retreat, a vibrant space for entertaining, or a sustainable garden that benefits local wildlife, planning is the bridge that transforms dreams into reality.

What is your vision?

Creating a mood board or sketch can help bring clarity to your ideas. Consider using photos (Pinterest is perfect for this), look at colours, heights, textures and plant choices to establish your vision, oh and be sure to add some Tom's Yard pots to you mood boards!

How to Assess Your Garden

Every garden is unique, and its design must consider the natural environment. Here's what to evaluate:

  • Sunlight and Shade: Determine how sunlight moves through your space. This is best assessed during the height of Summer and the following measurements will help you - Any space that receives 6+ hours of sun = full sun, less that 4 hours = shade and 4-6 hours partial sun/shade.

  • Soil Quality: Test your soil for nutrients and pH balance.

  • Climate Considerations: Select plants suited to your region’s weather patterns.

  • Existing Features: Identify trees, fences, or structures that will influence your layout.

What's Next?

Once you’ve assessed your space, it’s time to set achievable goals. Break your vision into manageable steps:

  1. Establish a Budget: Determine how much you’re willing to invest.

  2. Set a Timeline: Consider seasonal planting schedules and your own availability.

Thomas's Top Tip

Turning your garden vision into a reality requires patience and persistence. Start with small, achievable projects, and gradually expand. Document your progress through photos and notes, celebrating milestones along the way.

With a clear vision and a solid plan, your dream garden is within reach. Whether you’re starting from scratch or enhancing an existing space, the process of designing and nurturing a garden can be as rewarding as the final result. Embrace the journey, and let your garden reflect the beauty and creativity of your imagination.

In 2024, we delivered so many amazing pots that had formed part of your vision boards, were sketched into design plans and ordered by you as key features in your garden. We can not wait to see many more of your beautiful spaces in 2025 and to also see how 2024s gardens are coming along to.
