You may have noticed a new name among our Japanese garden tools this year.
ARS tools is now behind many of the snips, secateurs and pruning tools available at Tom’s Yard. Although the name may be new to some of our customers, ARS has been making specialist cutting tools in Japan since 1876 and is known for producing sharp, precise and beautifully made tools for gardeners around the world.
We’re delighted to stock the range, particularly as 2026 marks the brand’s 150th anniversary.
To celebrate this impressive milestone, ARS has launched a Global Photo Competition, inviting gardeners around the world to share their tools in action.

How to enter
Simply submit a photograph of yourself using your favourite ARS tool for the chance to win a special prize bundle.
The person using the tool must be clearly visible in the photograph alongside the ARS product, whether you’re pruning shrubs, cutting flowers, tackling an overgrown corner or carrying out a little seasonal tidying.
The competition closes on 31st August 2026, with the winners selected by ARS Japan after the closing date.
Good luck, we’d love to see a Tom’s Yard customer among the winners.
