When choosing products for Tom’s Yard, I’ve always believed that quality matters more than quantity. I work closely with a small number of skilled British workshops and businesses that share my appreciation for proper materials, traditional craftsmanship and pieces made to last.

Every item in our garden furniture collection is made to order. Whether crafted from solid steel or woven by hand using British willow, these are pieces designed to be enjoyed outdoors for many years.

Handmade Here in Herefordshire

Our metal garden furniture is made in partnership with a local workshop, just half an hour from Tom’s Yard.

Unlike lightweight, mass-produced alternatives, every piece is made from solid steel. The metal is carefully fabricated and welded before being sent to another local business to be hot-dip galvanised.

This process coats the steel in molten zinc, creating a durable, rust-resistant finish. A final wash softens the shine and gives each piece its distinctive, gently weathered appearance.

The furniture can remain outside throughout the year with very little maintenance and suits both traditional and contemporary gardens.

From our strapwork benches to the larger oval dining sets, every order supports three independent Herefordshire businesses.

Brampton Willows

I’m also delighted to work with Louis and the team at Brampton Willows, a Suffolk workshop specialising in hand-woven garden products.

Every piece is made to order using traditional weaving skills and natural willow. The furniture is individually woven around a strong steel frame, combining the character of a natural material with the durability needed for outdoor use.

The collection includes beautifully made willow armchairs, daybeds and distinctive willow nests. No two pieces will ever be completely identical and it is those small variations that make handmade furniture so special.

By working with Brampton Willows, I’m able to support a traditional British craft while offering furniture that feels completely different from anything mass-produced.

A Place in the Garden

Our Arras-style furniture is made by A Place in the Garden, an award-winning, family-run British business known for beautifully crafted garden wares.

Inspired by the metal furniture first produced in Arras, France, during the 19th century, the collection features distinctive hoof-shaped feet and gently curved ironwork.

The curves don’t just look good. They make the furniture more comfortable while helping rainwater run away from the surface. Each piece is handmade from galvanised steel and finished with a patina that will continue to develop character as it weathers.

The Arras dining sets and garden benches combine historical inspiration with the strength and practicality required for modern gardens.

Made Properly and Made to Last

Although each workshop uses different materials and techniques, they all share the same approach: make things properly, use quality materials and create pieces that will continue to look good as they age.

That is exactly what I look for when choosing products for Tom’s Yard.
