Carrying on from our Spring Ready Guide we thought we'd take a look at what's in Thomas' Tool Shed for his recommendations on tools to use in the garden. Warning, this selection will be with you forever as they are just made too well, and are just so versatile.
What is the best tool for removing weeds from containers and pots?
This would have to be the Sneeboer Weeding Fork. It is such a precise tool and the thin, sharp tines allows it to slip into tight spaces, remove the weeds and do not disturb the surrounding plants in the process. It's made from stainless steel so perfect for use in the British weather and the handles are just so easy to hold.
What is the best tool for pruning shrubs and trees?
The ARS fixed and folding saws are a must. ARS are a Japanese brand known for producing high-quality pruning saws and the sharpness, durability, and ease of use is second-to-none. They honestly make cutting through thick branches so easy and this is down to their triple-ground teeth and curved blade design (so the experts tell me).

What is your favourite all-rounder tool?
The Niwaki Hori Hori Knife without a doubt is the best tool in my kit. You can tackle almost everything with one of these, bulb planting, weeding, cutting, everything. I honestly can not garden without one of these.
What is your go-to tool for pruning roses
This would have to be the Niwaki Mainichi Secateurs. The big chunky catch at the bottom has a crisp action that’s easy to use, even with cold wet hands or muddy gloves, and the spring is well secured and never accidentally pops out. As with all Japanese secateurs, these have a simple direct action, resulting in a very clean, efficient cut. Big bonus is that the handles are bright yellow, easy to spot when you've put them down and have accidentally lost them.
Another contender for this category would also be the Niwaki Forged Garden Snips , small yet mighty! They are more heavy-duty than your average snips and make light work of pruning and tidying, not only roses but all manner of plants.
Do you have any of these already in your tool shed? The beauty of all of these recommendations is they're made to last a lifetime, and will go through your gardening journey with you. Every step of the way.
