Planning Your Visit

I'm honoured that so many buyers are prepared to drive so far to view my collection at Tom's Yard. Over the years we've had people from all around the country (and even whilst on holiday from abroad!) want to visit the business.

To make your trip as enjoyable and as easy as possible, this page will provide you with travel times and places to visit so you can plan and make the most of your day.

Should you ever require further suggestions on anything else, including places to stay, just let me know. I have 26 years experience of loving the area and it's a pleasure to see others doing so.

  • Eat & Drink

Within a short drive of Tom's Yard there are a number of great places to stop for a good meal or a light bite. As you're visiting from out of the area, I've put down my favourites that are all within 15 minutes.

    -

The New Inn (St Owens Cross), The Kilpeck Inn (Kilpeck), The Cottage of Content (Carey) & The Loughpool (Sellack).

    -

Do check opening times for lunches before leaving. Some will require booking.

  • Gardens

I couldn't write a list without recommending some of my favourite gardens in the area. Some may not be on the doorstep of Much Birch (one is!), though I think they are well-worth planning into your trip. Again, do check opening times, particularly if your visit is after September and before Spring.

    -

The Lasketts (5 minutes, a Perennial managed garden), Stockton Bury Gardens (45 minutes, right off the A49 nr Leominster - private gardens), Westbury Court Garden (40 minutes, National Trust owned original Dutch Water Garden), Berrington Hall (40 minutes, National Trust owned Country House featuring Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's final work), Moors Meadow (50 minutes, near Bromyard - private gardens)

  • Sites & Activities

Herefordshire and the Wye Valley is an area with an abundance of history and natural beauty. If you're in the mood to discover more about the area within a reasonable drive of Tom's Yard, I'd suggest the following...

    -

12th Century Norman Church in Kilpeck (10 minutes), Cistercian Abbey in Abbey Dore (20 minutes), Ancient Arthurs Stone in Dorstone (35 minutes), Puzzlewood in Coleford (35 minutes), Symonds Yat Rock in Symonds Yat (20 minutes), Sugarloaf Vinyard near Abergavenny (40 minutes) and Goodrich Castle in Goodrich (20 minutes).
